General Information

When is the 2021 RiverRun 5k?

Unfortunately RiverRun will not take place in 2021. Visit the Cancellation tab for more information.

Is there a 10k this year?

No. There is no 10k option this year.

Do you have a lost and found in case I lose something race weekend?

Yes. Our lost and found will be located at our Problems/Resolutions table on race day. If after race day you find that you are missing something please email RiverRun is not responsible for lost or stolen items. 

Where can I find updates the morning of the race? 

Facebook! Like our page @uiowariverrun for race day updates. We will also update participants and visitors frequently on race day via our PA system.

Packet Pickup Information

Where do I pick up my race packet?

Packet pickup information to be released in 2022. 

Can someone else pick-up my packet?

Yes! You can have a friend or family member pick up your packet.

If I registered but end up being unable to attend the race, can I still get my packet?

We are sorry you won’t be there with us on race day! You can still pick up your packet during our pickup times or contact after Saturday to pick up your packet the Monday or Tuesday following the race. 

What will be included in my packet?

Your runner’s packet will include your bib and timing chip, maps of the course and event, your t-shirt if you ordered one, and more information and goodies from RiverRun and the local businesses!

Where do I get my timer?

Timing chips will be attached to your race bib. You will receive them both when you pick up your packet!


What happens if it rains?

RiverRun will take place rain or shine! If there is thunder or lightening participants will be moved inside the Iowa Memorial Union until we have the all clear from law enforcement or the decision is made to cancel the race. Be prepared with rain gear and layers.

If the race is cancelled from rain will I be reimbursed? 

Unfortunately, if the event is cancelled we will not be able to offer reimbursements. Proceeds will still benefit Uptown Bill's and the Extend the Dream Foundation.

COVID-19 Concerns

Will RiverRun be cancelled due to COVID-19?

As of right now RiverRun will still take place on April 4th. We are taking these concerns very seriously and will work with the University closer to race day to determine if we need to cancel the race.

If the race is cancelled because of COVID-19 will I be reimbursed?

Unfortunately, if the event is cancelled we will not be able to offer reimbursements. Proceeds will still benefit Uptown Bill's and the Extend the Dream Foundation. 


Course Information

What runner amenities do you offer on the course?

The course will have 3 aid stations for access to water and volunteers to assist if a participant needs other support on the course. 

Is the RiverRun 5k walker-friendly?

RiverRun is open to all registered participants. We do encourage walkers and wheelchair participants to yield to runners.

What is the course time limit?

The RiverRun 5k has a course time limit of 1 hour. After this time, the course will be taken down and those who finish outside of the time limit will not be recorded as official finishers and may not receive full on-course support from aid stations and traffic safety personnel.

Can I participate with a stroller?

Yes you are welcome to race with a stroller! Please just be mindful of and yield to other participants. 


I can’t find my race results, where are they located?

There will be a timing clock for you to view at the finish line and paper copies of race results will be posted in waves inside the IMU. If you do not view your time at the race, visit and results will be posted in the afternoon on the 4th. 

Parking and Transportation

Where can I park on race day? 

Parking is available in the IMU N Madison St ramp at the standard rate. Visit for parking costs. Free parking is available in the Hancher Auditorium parking lot on the other side of the river. 

Does RiverRun provide transportation to and from the race?

RiverRun does not provide transportation. The closest Iowa City Public Bus stop to the event is Stop #0146 on the South end of Hubbard Park. Visit to plan your way to RiverRun. 

Will there be any street closures on race day?

Yes. One lane of Market Street will be closed from 9:45-10:15 to ensure a safe start to the race. Lanes of Madison Street will also be closed shortly. Park Road will also be closed intermittently to accomodate large waves of participants. 

Health & Fitness Fair 

Where is the Fitness Fair located?

The Fitness Fair will be located in Hubbard Commons inside the Iowa Memorial Union. 

What exhibitors will be at the Fitness Fair?

A full list and map of participants will be available in advance of race weekend.
